I disagree that the title is true. Increasing the rate of leveling doesnt shorten game life, it makes people feel like there is progression. Without a feeling of progression, people switch off and numbers recede quickly. A balance is needed. You could also incorperate something EQ2 did, in that you would receive spells mid-way through certain levels. This enables the feeling of progression and accomplishment, without making it far too short that people get bored.
I like the idea of getting abilities/spells mid-way through level but not sure how hard it would be to implement -- will ask and find out.
