You can use either the mouse or keyboard for movement. You'll have a variety of keymaps to choose from, or make your own. Customize to your heart's content.
I use the keypad for movement in EQLive. But when I play EQ2, I pretty much just use the mouse. I can't pinpoint exactly how, but our mouselook just works way more smoothly than it does in EQ. To move forward, you hold both mouse buttons down. You may not like the sound of it on paper, but don't be surprised if you become a convert like me.
