Heroic Mob Difficulty
- Heroic mobs have likely become more difficult with the changes as people learn to adjust to the new mechanics. The above mention about skills becoming more meaningful applies to the mobs as well. Debuffs and Buffs to skill will have a larger impact on the outcome of a battle. If you find that fighting a mob you could beat easily has become more challenging then that is likely a product of the overall skill and statistic changes to the mobs.
- Named mobs usually get additional bonuses in skill, damage, attack speed, and hit points. They are often considerably more difficult than a non-named version of the same mob and will usually require some help to defeat them. (Even solo versions may need 2 or 3 people to tackle)
- Though green and blue mobs have likely become more challenging this does follow along with the earlier increase in experience rewards for these mobs.
Solo Mob Difficulty
- Solo mobs largely remain unchanged as they receive very few bonus skill points in most cases.
Epic Mob Difficulty
- The default difficulty of epic mobs has increased. In order for an epic mob to be a challenge we are no longer required to stack several bonuses upon them the new mechanics makes an X2, X3, and X4 mob fairly challenging by nature of adding that designation.
- By nature of how epic mobs are designed some will likely be considerably more challenging than before. Very likely they are following the original intent of their creator now and pose the difficulty they should have in the beginning. However, where things are obviously incorrect we will be making adjustments in the coming days.
Now for some answers to questions I've seen posted on the board:
Q: The raids in KoS are a lot more difficult than before. Is this intentional?
A: The KoS raids will be more difficult with the new mechanics because of the increased challenge of epic mobs. However, we will be tuning specific encounters as necessary to ensure that the difficulty of KoS raids fall in line with the progression from KoS to EoF.
Q: What can I do to decrease the resist rates I'm seeing on spells?
A: First, you should make sure your spells are of the highest quality you can obtain for your character. Second, and possibly even more important, you should find items or spells that increase your casting skills. The higher your skill the easier it is for you to defeat a mob's resistances.
Q: What can I do to make sure I don't miss as often in melee combat?
A: You should find items or spells / combat arts which increase your slashing / crushing / piercing / ranged skills (whichever you use the most). The higher the skill the more often you will defeat their defense and hit them.
Q: What can I do if I'm getting hit constantly?
A: Increase your Agility, Defense Skill, Parry Skill, Deflection Skill, or obtain a better shield. And when in combat make sure that debuffs to a mob's offensive skills like slashing, crushing, piercing, and ranged are used. All of these things will contribute to your avoidance and keep you from getting hit as often.
Q: My avoidance says I have a 70% chance to avoid an attack but yellow heroic mobs hit me more like 70% of the time, why?
A: Your avoidance score is calculated against an even level, no arrow, solo mob. Any changes in level or difficulty (up or down arrows) to the mob will act as a modifier to this score. This is why the display was changed to show a raw number instead of a percentage by default. Higher, is always better but you cannot compare the avoidance number against the armor number, these are two very different calculations and cannot be directly compared
