This is an unprecendented move and I hope, pray, you really know what you are doing and 'if" i go ahead and order the game I am putting ALL my trust into this company and it bettter deliver when it comes to these communities youre talking about. I better not see favoritism to certain fan sites by how they shmooze the company ETC ETC ETC. This really scares me to be quite clear.
I can see NO detriment to forum communities and in fact love the Venekor realm forum community for EQ2. But hey, Im up for a change and will try it but If I end up wasting upgrade money AND software money and you guys drop the ball, Im going to be not just a little angry but livid.
Please make sure this is the best decision, from there on out, if you say so I will go ahead and trust it but I really hope you have thought it through before asking us to trust this move.
ps: Amen to the WOW comments, their forums are a cesspool at times and if this is an attempt to steer away from nerf whiners and that sort of thing I am actually all for it. Just concerned in a healthy way :P
pss: HOrizons actually took this approach and this is both scary and good...I actually liked Horizons fansite that they used but the game did not do well at all and the fansite had a lot of issues due to budget problems etc. Im concerned LOL.
Your concerns are valid, and we know many share the same feelings. This decision was not made lightly, and we have taken into account our many years of involvement with MMO's and their communities.
We do have a Community Manager, Nick (Glip the Gnome) Parkinson. Nick and I have both worked on fansites ourselves prior to working at Sigil. We're totally confident in this program and would not be going full steam ahead if we weren't.
