There is tons of lore in this game. The game is built to be a world, not one adventure that everyone experiences. you have to make your own story. Just because your a PC doesn't entitle you to an edpic adventyure. to the eyes of the world, you're a level one adventurer you decided he didn't like being a farm boy or whatever. Farm boys don't slay dragons; epic heroes slay dragons, and you have to earn epic hero status. since you seem unable to find the lore of the game through all the quest, here is a quick rundown of the story.
Thestra
Thestra has been invaded by an undead horde. The undead conquered a good portion fo the western part of the continent, including the human capital of Old targonor. The Dwarves of Bordinar's Cleft are currently on the front lines as they hold the territory closest to the undead. There is the constant threat of undead invasion.
Thestran Humans
Tursh recently experienced a gigantic explosion in the local magic academy and a bunch of demons are pouring out of it. The Sages arcane Inquisition was dispatched to investigate and a bunch of the noble families sent emissaries to "help" the Sages Arcane. Through the adventuring sphere, you learn that the professors at the avademy were experimenting with forbidden rift magic and they accidently opened a rift which allowed the imps to pour through. Through the diplomacy sphere you learn of all the subterfuge and political wrangling going on behind the scenes in tursh. some families are trying to gain control of the magic academy, some families are trying to shift the blame of the accident, some families are just there to cause problems. Also some redcaps are causing problems by taking control of the food storage for Rindol Field. At the end of the whole adventuring line, you learn about the Riftseeker's Torrent which is a dungeon complex of the masters and students who are practicing the rift magic. They have opened gates to three planes one leads to an undead plane, one leads to where the redcaps are coming from, and the final one leads to Qur'xa, the plane where the imps come from and where the Kurashasa on Qalia come from.
Dwarves
The dwarves recently got evicted from their capital by some gnolls and ogres. The capital is now a high level dungeon known as Dargun's Tomb. The Dwarves have to deal with the constant threat of an undead invasion, as they are the front line. The also have the Oathbreakers to worry about. the Oathbreakers are trying to build their own drawven kingdom and are going about it using less that honorable means, such as banditry. When you finally get into khegor's End you will find that they have a small city area at the very bottom complete with a abr and a throne room.
High Elves
The High Elves also have a problem wtih a local magic academy. It seems that a cult in the now fallen Lyceum of ingolas were worshipping the chaos god, Kaon, and opened some rifts to his plane allowing the Kaon forces to pour out and corrupt the area. Unlike the riftseekers in Tursh, though, the Kaon forces seem to be causing much more of a problem with the Elves. a good portion of their lands are overrun by the Kaon forces.
Qalia
I don't know much about Qalia. the basic story there though is that the dark Elves used to inhabit the colcano Stiirhad until it blew it's top. During the eruption, a bunch of elementals poured into the Dark Elves' city and they were forced to leave and settle in knew lands. now the elemantals threaten to overrun the rest of Qalia.
Kojan (The Non-Martok Part)
Kojan also seems to be having problems with an invasion from another plane of existence. However, unlike in Thestra, the Kojanese weren't practicing forbidden magic that resulted in opening a portal to a plane of evil. No, they are being overrun by the Ulvari. The Ulvari come from a plane where their kingdom has fallen apart and they want to spread the misery and chaos they have suffered to the rest of ecistence.
Just wanted to say thanks for this post and others that reveal that there IS lore and a story there. Also there is a greater story that ties a lot of this together that will be revealed the higher level you become, how interested you are in discovering it, by both adventuring and diplomacy.
thanks all,
