Both make you waste your life away grinding towards a goal which dos'nt exist. 20 years from now these fools will look back and see how they wasted their lives.
It truly is amazing to find these people playing 50 hours a week towards NOTHING!!! Imagine if you put that time into further education, thought, cures for disease, your kids and wife. It's a very scary thing if you really really look in the mirror...
I guess none of these people got anything from the Southpark WoW episode.."How do you kill someone who has no life"
Think.......
1. grinding is just advancing in a monotonous way, when you're not having fun. While there are people grinding in Vanguard (and arguably every MMOG), it's not something we are fond of and it's our responsibility to do our best to make sure advancing in the game doesn't feel like a grind as much as is possible. Character advancement ideally should always be fun and not feel like a grind -- easier said than done, but that is our goal.
2. I also don't think people will look back at the times they spent a lot of time playing MMOGs as a waste. Playing games is entertainment and entertainment is an important aspect of life -- life can't all be about accomplishment in RL and working and such -- people need to unwind. I don't look at all the time I spend watching TV as a waste and nor do I regret it. And watching TV or reading a book is passive entertainment. MMOGs are active entertainment where you are interacting with other real people, involving yourself in a community, making friends, etc. Many of my friends in RL I met in MUDs and MMOGs and have been my friends since the early/mid 1990s. And I certainly don't regret that I have those friends just because I met them in MUDs/MMOGs -- the friendships are real and lasting, just like friendships developed in more traditional ways. And you certainly aren't part of a community are making new friends reading a book or watching a movie. So I have to respectfully disagree -- I don't think most people will look back at their time playing these games in the future and consider that time invested a waste.
