This game makes me think of a cross between Ultima Online and WoW, its got the UI of WoW, button config of WoW, of course 3d, but it has houses and boats and shops like UO. I would really like to see them do things like they did in UO like on Vanguard radio, havent listened to it much but have them talk about the game, updates and even have Vanguard creators have events online where everyone can gather for the event and have them broadcast it on VG radio, anyways i think it would be cool to have that.

I think it's more of a game with an EQ/MUD foundation and then with different ideas and mechanics built on top of that foundation. There are indeed features influenced by UO (ships, crafting, etc). There are also new ideas like Diplomacy that really haven't been seen anywhere else.

WoW is pretty much a very polished and accessible and also made more casual with some single player RPG elements decendent of EQ 1. We know the Blizzard guys played a LOT of EQ 1 and were determined to take what they learned and then make it more accessible, polished, etc. And they did a very good job of it.

I'd say if we have taken any influence from WoW it's the importance of making a game that supports casual gamers even a bit more than we'd originally planned, and then the importance of polish and a very solid and easy to get used UI.

Bottom line, we took what we knew, tried to fix or address the issues we were not happy with in EQ 1, and then make that a foundation. Then we tried to learn from the triumphs and mistakes of first and second generation MMOGs like UO, SWG, AO, etc. and implement accordingly. UO for example was more broad than deep, especially at the beginning, but it had some really cool ideas like housing and ships and such. So we made sure we had a deep foundation and then added housing and ships, for example, to appeal to the UO crowd as well. Diplomacy was put in to provide another sphere of advancement and to address the desire of MMOG players to have more lore and not only have a game about hack-n-slash. When we evolve housing into city building we plan on having RTS elements which will hopefully appeal to RTS gamers who might not normally play MMOGs (and at the very least, appeal to MMOG players who also like RTS games, like me).
