Actually it is not fact. You do not get more XP per item finished in succession, at least that is not how it is coded. While I am sure this will be looked into while I am out of the office, I would consider this a result of the variance within the XP formula based on your performance rating when compared to the difficulty rating generated dynamically by the recipe as you go through it.

You need to record pretty much everything you did and your results for each recipe in order for us to determine if this is buggy behavior or not. The built up XP thing is a myth as we do not store the previous performance on the character anywhere for the next recipe to reference.
