SDF is intended to be a bonus, not a requirement. The same can be said for Healing Focus.
Adventuring balance has not been designed around either; yes, we're still aware of their impact.
As such, there will be plenty of items out there that don't include SDF or HF. Items that do have those bonuses will be superior. Find those items, grasp those items, wear those items, love those items.
As Danni pointed out, many players believe the itemisation is just plain horrid in MMOs. Those beliefs are and will always be partially founded on the fact that players are privy to information that they wouldn't normally be would they be playing a single-player game (unless, of course, they frequent sites like gamefaqs.com, hehe). To be clear, I'm not defending either WoW or EQ2; I have no idea how their itemization works.
Players will ALWAYS judge their current gear against the best gear in the game. Point of fact, if every item in the game had the best combination of stats, you'd eventually hear players complain that they're never getting upgrades.
And yea, I'm aware that some items are just plain horrid. Am more than happy to fix if/when they're brought to my attention
