Morning all,
Since I have some time I thought I would let you all know what is going on internally in regards to the crafting sphere. I have been collecting data on the top issues and here is what the top ten appear to be:
1. Ultra Rare Rate
2. Quests
3. Comp Frequency
4. Recipe sorting/crafting UI
5. WO rewards
6. Crafting gear drop rates
7. EE Tool swapping
8. Test server transfer/buffage tied with Skinning Rate
9. Dust options
10. Upgrade recipes
These are the finding based on the thread I started on May 14th asking for people to list their top ten issues. All of these issues have been addressed by me at some point but I will go over them again here to let you know where things stand.
1. Ultra rare and rare node spawn rates have been adjusted making them a little less frequent.
2. Jansan is the crafting team quest guy that is all he does all day. New quests and quests fixes go in almost every patch. This is an ongoing process, but with recent changes may be hindered by the need of Jansan to wear additional hats since our team is smaller. Please note that we hear you and talk about quests almost everyday. Crafting only quests make up 15% of the the quests in all of Vanguard which is a significant number considering the number of crafting only quests that exist in other games.
3. Come frequency is being tweaked, we have limited testing capabilities and are making tweaks best we can considering our own testing sessions, and your feedback. It seems thought that complications may never find a place to be accepted by the masses and as such I am considering turning them off completely. They are identified as one of the things that makes crafting tedious and annoying, I would like crafting to thought of differently so I am considering all options at this point.
4. Recipe sorting is a big issue and has been on the table for awhile. This requires UI code time and right now UI code time for crafting is not a super high priority considering the size of our programming department and the need to focus our attention on the adventuring sphere and the problems it may have. Needless to say I am aware of the problem (it annoys me to no end) and it will get resolved at some point I just do not have a time frame atm.
5. Work order rewards are set up as they are intended to be. Most of the time you will get cash loot much like adventuring drops. Sometimes you will get other items that are “useful”. While the percentages can be tweaked they are set up considering a particular balance that leaves room for slight adjustments where needed.
6. The drop rate of gear was increased recently bring it up to a more desirable percentage but it seems that it may need to be upped a little bit more. This is being reviewed when I can review it considering the last increase was done in the midst of our company changing completely.
7. Toll swapping and the troubles of how EE works is a noted complaint and something I am bringing to the attention of our programmers. Since we no longer have a crafting specific coder getting things like this looked at takes a little bit more time, and as I have said previously it is not high on the overall list of issues.
8. Test server characters we have been trying to get this taken care of but the process is slow. I was informed yesterday that we should now have powers on test which means I can buff people but I need to confirm this then I can post letting you all know what to do.
9. Dust options are and will always be an issue of some sort to someone. I do understand that there are some obvious holes but dust options were laid out with holes in mind allowing adventuring dropped items the ability to fill them. Looking at how things have changed and our classes have grown I understand the need to evaluate some of the combinations but this is a monumental task and not high on the list, but it will be looked into hopefully soon.
10. Upgrade recipe drop rate is exactly what I have stated several times. They all have the same percentage chance to drop within their own trade based tables. Location is not a factor all that matters is doing 5 item work orders. The current mechanic behind getting upgrade recipes is staying the way it is. Consideration of different options of acquiring upgrade recipes are on the table and have already been figured out but they won’t be in for awhile.
Along with looking into the above issues I have a list of things I am working on that involve the crafting sphere. These things are:
1. Implementing the ability to transmute dusts into other dusts.
2. Implementing a change to upgrade recipes that allow BOEd items to be upgraded.
3. Merging of continental effects and equipped effects.
4. Implementing bonus faction for higher grades.
5. Deconning of handwraps for leatherworkers.
This list of things along with others outside of the crafting sphere are on my plate and I am hoping to get them finished within a month, but things are still settling right now and I am needed in other areas on the team more then ever since our team is smaller in size.
Something else that will be happening in the next couple of weeks I that Jansan will be taking over as lead of crafting. I will be helping him get up to speed on some Silius specific things and then giving him the reins so that I can use my experience in other areas to assist the content and class teams where they need assistance.
The next month will be odd as things transition and my role in the community is lessened. It has been made clear a few times that my ability to post here has become more of an issue for me as I try to get more things taken care of. As it stands now I will once again have to reduce my posting frequency to concentrate on the list of thing I need to do along with helping Jansan transition. Please continue to post issues as you find them and when the test server stuff is sorted out I will let you know so we can meet up and I can buff those who need it.
