We didn't have any expansions planned. We *had* planned on shipping with all 5 continents early on (and Erudin was built fairly early), but then later decided to make it 3 with just as much content, but by putting it on 3 continents, the content would be more dense.

Even though I told people about this decision months before release, people often claimed that we'd lied to them. It didn't help when their was an error on the first printing of EQ boxes that used year old text and said 5 continents (the second printing, etc. fixed that).

This is why as I've posted before I am very careful to say what is going to be in the game, what might be in the game at launch, and what will definitely be post-launch. I want to minimize this. I realize there will always be compliants, but I think people are realizing more and more that these games are never truly done and keep building after release. Early on people thought an MMOG should be truly 'done' before launched, when in actuality, the greatest strength of MMOGs is that they are never done -- it's like a great series of fantasy novels that keeps going, or another series of books that use the same world -- take what Feist has done with Midkemia, etc.

Anyway, I've posted details about my thoughts on this in the past.
