You've got some time to explore your options, AnomalousSilence. Take a broad range of classes in High School (that will ensure you college acceptance), then concentrate on exploring even more your Freshman year. If you truly want to pursue the life of the academic, your first couple years of college will be valuable to you in determining if a bunch of years in college is your true calling.
In the near term, I'd recommend joining a Medical Explorers program, or seeing if your local hospital has an internship program. That stuff will help you determine if medicine is your field AND look great on a college app.
If you have what it takes to work in a hospital, you'll find this out early, which will help your decision-making later.
Finally, sociology is a great hobby field (I love reading about it, myself), but a tough one to actually make a career out of. Learn to love statistics!
Good luck! Soul-searching in high school will help you set your sights when you do it again in college.
