I would like to say that I truly think they thought they were there. I don't buy the conspiracy theories that we made it up to have a reason to invade. Why?

1. I've seen videos shot by journalists and soldiers (on Discovery, the Military Channel, etc.) and I saw the soldiers with the gas masks and very worried they would be 'slimed' as they called it, especially as they approached Baghdad.

2. It would have been *very* easy for a clandestine special forces group to take old WMDs and hide them deep in Iraq before the invasion and then have regular forces 'discover' them, exonerating the claims made by the Bush Administration, had then all been party of a conspiracy.

In this case, the adage 'never assume malice when ignorance or stupidity explains the situation' applies, IMHO.
