US invaded Afghanistan because of Terrorism .... hmmm i did not know that Afghanistan bombed america, that was Osama and he is not even Afghanian.
US invaded Irak because of Terrorism .... i guess you didnt find any ABC weapons down there? Oh but you found oil ... better than nothing I guess.
What comes next? Iran? Guess they have no oil there and it is just because this evil man needs to be punished.
Ever asked why there is terror against the US? I belive in the action reaction theory. Sure its wrong to fly into the WTC and kill inocent but did you ever ask why the hell did they do that?
1. It's inarguable that the Taliban government harbored, protected, and aided Bin Laden. So just as Bin Laden himself didn't actually himself carry out 9/11, he did order it, and while ordering it and many other horrible acts of terrorism, he was protected by the Taliban government (who had a horrible record in terms of human rights anyway). Also, when we demanded they release him to us, they said no, multiple times. In this country, aiding and abetting a criminal is criminal in and of itself.
2. We most certainly found terrorists in Iraq. And not just Iraqi insurgents loyal to Saddam, but many, many insurgents are from other countries who went to Iraq to kill Americans. My cousin's friend was killed by a Chechen sniper only a few days before returning from his tour of duty over there. And there were also confirmed Al Qaeda terrorist training camps in Iraq, although I would agree the Iraq/Bin Laden connection was overstated (though true, none the less). In any case, a terrorist bent on killing innocents because he is upset at the United States or England or Israel or anyone is a terrorist, IMHO. That said, please read my post re: reasons we invaded -- I most certainly agree Oil was a major factor as well, with some greedily wanting control over it and others wanting to use it to help re-build Iraq instead of its proceeds being used to build Saddam's 10th palace while his people suffered horribly in poverty.
3. Iran is definitely scary. As is North Korea. I don't pretend to have the wisdom or knowledge to know what exactly to do about these issues as they are as similar as they are different. But if it took invading a country to stop a US city from being nuked by a terrorist, and I could be convinced that such action would indeed stop or significantly reduce that threat, I would generally be in favor of it.
4. I think a lot of corrupt governments exist in this world (certainly NOT all Muslim). And these governments, in order to stay in power and avoid revolution, need an explanation as to why so much money is being spent by that government not on helping the people. They need an outside enemy. They need to teach their children from an early age to hate another entity so they don't grow up and end up starting a revolution to remove the government in power who is abusing them, keeping them in poverty, etc. North Korea is a great example. And so while it is fact that the United States and her allies support some of the countries who are enemies of these corrupt governments, I do not feel that if we turtled up and went totally isolationist that they would suddenly cease hating the United States. They would lie to their people and claim that the United States and other countries are still aiding Israel or whomever and use that as an excuse as to why their country is impoverished, totalitarian, and not generally a fun place to live. These corrupt governments desperately *need* a scapegoat, an excuse, to justify their corruption and to give the average citizen somebody/some country to hate other than their own in order to avoid a revolution.
