The coloured boats are a bit wierd. I noticed that too. I kind of like it though. The lag was really noticable. Lots of stuttering. But theres a few reasons for that. Firstly, the software they use to record movies from the PC, uses ALOT of resources. Some people say it lowers the speed of the game by about 30% (or something huge like that....). I have heard that before about other games too, so it must be true. So its possible the game is perfectly smooth when he is playing it normally.

Also, alot of optimising is still yet to be done, so even if the game did stutter a few times, it will be better by release anyway.

As for the lighting, i dont think ive noticed that. Will have to watch them again


It is definitely almost totally smooth when I run it -- I'm runing it on a high end machine at 1200x800 and even at Very High settings that NOT a problem for the machine.

Here's hoping the more professionally produced videos that are being worked on will have used better software (pretty darn sure that's true) and then the concerns over FPS will go away.

Which brings me to a more general statement: putting out videos like this for the fans and fansites, which we love to do, is a risk. Those that don't know much about the game or the context aren't seeing professionally put together videos. I still think overall it's worth it, but then also once the better put together videos start to flow, these types will be much more rare.

Also -- the ships -- they are probably the most 'in-progress' items you are seeing in these videos -- there is no wake, the steering is wierd, the physics aren't all set up right, the sales aren't animating, etc.

So please keep in mind that these are previews into beta 3 put together for the fans and show a LOT of work in progress (in varying degrees of completion) and keep that in mind when viewing them (and also tell your friends the same).
