Goodkind can kind of get into politics a little bit in the later books -- though I'd say its more philosophy than direct politics, if that makes sense.
Eddings sounds more like what you're looking for. You've got your archetype characters and epic fantasy plotline. There's no real vulgarity and while humans are the only race its got all your standard "fantasy" elements. Check out "Pawn of Prophecy", its book 1 of the Belgariad and a pretty quick read.
If you dig it, the rest aren't hard to find.
