The one big incentive for a very large world is something I think Brad has mentioned since the beginning, which is to spread the players out enough so that different economies and infrastructures can arise in different parts of the world instead of being homogenized by auction houses, a la FFXI or WoW. Hopefully the original vision of the Silk Road style of trading where certain areas have rare items only found in that area that people will pay an arm and a leg to obtain without having to actually go there.....that seems exiciting to me. It hopefully will give the world that "special" feel that is taken away from the insta-gratification of instances and auction houses.
