Focusing on making a world in a video game, specifically in a large scale, you need to put time and care into the things that make it special, or your 100miles of watermass wont really mean anything but distance. In that distance of water maps you posted, there will be underground brokendown ships? Fish PH's to a fish that drops exquisite long lasting meat for fisherman - a meat lasting players days before it's consumed granting them X+ attribute? Underground water caves leading to unknown water dragon nests? Specific storm pattern PH's from when storms surge, hide tides in the ocean create whirlwinds and irratic wave patterns? A fast pathing named squid that cloaks invis, and is only appearable for a whole minute, every X amount of time - making him very rare and hard to see at that? Stuff that makes you say, rare/uncommon/fun/i want to go back/beautiful. You're thinking of these things right?
PS - I'm not in beta, wish i was. Not saying that these points will be lacked, but they're crucial, and in areas where it's just a huge mass of nothing, IE - the water maps you showed, toss in the spice!
Yes, there will be content -- creatures attacking you, underwater areas, hidden islands, etc. but not enough to reach a level of meaningful travel without putting some over water teleports in.
