<div id="post_message_601186">Does anyone know of a hardware device that works with the PC where you would set your video card with two dvi outputs to clone, and then have one sent to your monitor and the other feed to the device? It would also have to take sound input from your sound card too.

I've looked for such a device and found some, but they don't seem to give you any better framerate than FRAPs (usually worse).

SOE has some equipment, but even some of the movies they've put out (like the latest one with Jeff and me talking over the video) has slow FPS -- in fact, it seems slower than the most recent fan video put out that DID use FRAPs.

if anyone is an expert in this area, email me at bmcquaid@sigilgames.com.

I *really* want to release videos that show accurate FPS. Like people have posted here, the game plays pretty good in terms of performance and is getting better everyday. And no, you don't need a super computer either.

Our game because of it's size and seamless nature moves a lot of data between the CPU, main memory, and GPU memory. So a more modern PC that's say a 2.8ghz Intel or so with 1-2 gigs of RAM and an x800 or x850 with pci-express (or Nvidia equivalent) runs the game pretty darn good. But then if you take an older machine and even if it was a 3.4ghz, 2gigs of ram, and an AGP x800 or x850 (or Nvidia equivalent), things slow down.

It's one of the reasons I'm so excited about the new Intel chips. We've just got some in and Vanguard SCREAMS on them (we just got the latest Dell laptop in that uses one and are getting 30+fps in the vast majority of locations, often better). That's because it works so well with memory -- it has a done of cache and talks to the FSB, etc. a lot better. Even though it runs at a slower clock speed, again Vanguard doesn't use *that* much CPU in terms of hard core match crunching -- we've off loaded it to the GPU (and sound processor -- an xfi card gets you over 5% more fps).

Anyway, 1. I'd like to get videos out that don't have a lower FPS than the game because of software *or* hardware limitations of the recording of the video and sound and 2. just wanted to talk about why one person will say they get great performance in beta and another doesn't -- it's because of what I was talking about above -- the moving of so much data around.
